Postage Rate Table Options

You can set your postage rates by item, weight or surcharge:

  1. Charge by item: The cost is based on your postage service and postage destination, allowing you to charge different rates for locations that are further away.
  2. Charge by weight: A fixed base cost, plus an additional fixed amount per kilogram. This option works well for heavier items.
  3. Charge by surcharge: Add a surcharge to your base postal price, for any destination and postage service.

Preparing and Setting up Your Postage Rate Tables

--Single Image Content Start--

Before setting up your postage rate tables, we recommend you identify the different carriers and services you wish to use, as well as which regions you want to sell to. Have your carrier delivery time and costs for all of the regions you wish to sell to ready.

Once you have your carrier information, see how they map with eBay’s pre-defined delivery zones. Check out the regions available or browse region breakdown by postcode.

We've also created a postage rate table video. It's a great guide to help you get prepared and set up for postage rate tables - make sure you check it out, or simply follow the steps below.

Setting up your postage rate tables

Opt-in to postage rate tables:

Via My eBay:

  • Go to My eBay > ‘My eBay summary’ > ‘Account’ tab >  ‘Site Preferences’  > 'Postage Preferences' (click on ‘show’)

If you’re on the Seller Hub page, you can access this by clicking your account name, then ‘Account Settings’ from the dropdown menu.

The option 'Use postage rate tables' needs to be set to ‘Yes’.

Set up your postage rate table(s)

Now that you’re opted-in to postage rate tables, you can go into the option “Edit” on the right hand side to update it with your information.  The option to create/edit your postage rate tables will also be available on the listing level and in business policies.

You can set your shipping rates by item, weight or surcharge:

  • By item: This option is good for items that have similar sizes and weight, but where you need to set different shipping charges by region
  • By weight: If you want to charge a fixed base cost, plus an additional amount per kilogram. This is calculated based on the weight you provide when listing your item. Weight rate tables works well if you sell a range of items that varies in size and weight
  • By surcharge: Add a surcharge to your base postal price, for any destination and postage service

Remember, buyers will see the total postage costs only, not the additional costs.

  1. To begin, select whether you want to create a Domestic or International rate table (International rate table available in 2018)
  2. Choose a name you for your rate table. For example, “rate table for small items’
  3. Next for each of the service you offer, choose your regions and specify your how want much you want to charge buyers for that service

For example, you can offer 1 day delivery from Sydney to Melbourne for $15, but offer free postage for standard delivery. To offer free postage when using rate tables, enter $0 in the price field, don't leave it blank.

If you chose the kg weight option, please note that the first weight break is set to 1kg, even if the actual weight of your item is lower.

Select the service level you’d like to add, click on ‘Add regions’, and check the destination(s) you wish to add to your rate table.

  4. Next step is to add the cost per item or kg per region group
  5. To finish, click the blue ‘Save’ button to save your rate table!

How to set up your cut-off times:

While this step is not mandatory, it’s recommended you set up your cut-off times so we can provide more accurate delivery timeframes to your buyers.

To do so, go to ‘Account’ tab > ‘Site Preferences’ > 'Postage preferences' (click on ‘show’), and set ‘Order cut off time for same business day handling’ to ‘Yes’.

Check your working days and set the cut-off times.
