Updates to Your Seller Protections

We’re changing how we protect sellers for ‘item not received’ claims filed through eBay Money Back Guarantee.

Key Dates

Starting 1st June 2020:

We’ll require you to use postage providers that are integrated with eBay and provide regular tracking events

What you Need to Know

Starting 1 June, to be protected in the event of an ‘item not received’ claim through eBay Money Back Guarantee, we’ll require you to use postage providers that are integrated with eBay and provide regular tracking events. To help you make this change, we’ve published a list of recommended eBay-integrated providers that offer tracked services.

If eBay is asked to step in on an ‘item not received’ case, we’ll look for all of the following to prove successful, on-time delivery:

  • Tracking from an integrated carrier uploaded before the estimated delivery date
  • A delivery status of ‘delivered’
  • Date of delivery
  • The recipient's address, showing at least the city/suburb or postcode that matches the address in the order details
  • Signature confirmation, if an item has a total cost of $750 or more

You can still choose to use an untracked service and/or non-integrated postage provider to send items on eBay. However, we won’t then be able to protect you if an ‘item not received’ claim is opened.

Why We’re Making These Changes

Buyers are more confident their orders will arrive when they receive regular updates on the postage status, and are less likely to file ‘item not received’ claims when they aren’t delivered by the estimated date.

Next Steps

If you’re not already, we recommend that you:

  • Use a tracked service with an integrated carrier to send your items
  • Upload tracking to eBay within your stated handling time - don’t rely on sending it through messages to the buyer as this will not be accepted by eBay
