Update your listings to ensure you retain or gain an eBay Plus badge.

1 April 2020:

Additional requirements and benefits will take effect. Sellers who haven't updated their listings will lose their eBay Plus badge.

What you Need to Know

An eBay Plus badge on your listings helps you stand out on eBay by letting buyers know you deliver a great shopping experience. Listings with an eBay Plus badge see up to 16% more sales than those without*. We expect to see this number increase as we evolve the program to recognise and reward high-performing sellers. 

*Based on a comparative analysis of ~170K listings that didn’t have the eBay Plus badge for at least 365 days and then obtained and had the badge for at least 180 days during 1/8/18 – 30/4/19.

What’s Changing

Starting 1 April, sellers will need to meet both new and existing eBay Plus criteria for their listings to gain or retain the eBay Plus badge. These new requirements ensure we’re helping you meet retail standards and continuing to bring buyers to you.

The new criteria* require you to:

  1. Offer 0-1 day handling time
  2. Have an express postage option**
  3. Upload tracking on orders with the eBay Plus badge

eBay Plus members in metro areas will be automatically upgraded to free express delivery on eBay Plus listings. To support sellers who are providing this top level of service, eBay will fund up to $4*** of the express postage upgrade cost on these orders. We'll apply the contribution automatically at the point of transaction, and for a lot of sellers this will cover the cost of the express upgrade.

Access to engages buyers: eBay Plus members visit eBay.com.au up to 5x more^ and spend up to 6x more^^

Increased visibility: Your listings will be clearly highlighted with the eBay Plus badge in search, listing pages and at checkout. You'll also benefit from the eBay Plus toggle on our Search page, which buyers use to shop eBay Plus items.

eBay-funded promotions: You'll automatically be included in exclusive eBay Plus promotions where we'll merchandise and market your eBay Plus inventory to buyers.

Increased seller protections: On listings with an eBay Plus badge, we offer additional protections if an item is returned after it was used or damaged by the buyer or if the buyer falsely claims an 'item not as described'.

Next Steps

  • Start updating your listings to meet the new requirements by 1 April 2020
    • From 1 April, we’ll monitor your delivery performance and tracking upload compliance and may remove the badge from listings where you don’t meet these requirements 
  • Look out for your monthly Business Performance Report, which contains eBay Plus metrics for your listings 
  • If you don’t want to be a part of the eBay Plus program, you’ll have the option to opt out from late March this year

*eBay may still exclude some listings that meet the criteria from the program - e.g. bulky items and low-value items typically sent in letters.

**We recommend you only charge buyers the upgrade cost from standard to express postage to make your listing more appealin-g to all buyers. For example, if your carrier charges $6 for standard postage and $10 for express, then you should only charge the buyer $4 for express postage. There is a $15 maximum express postage cost for badge eligibility. 

***eBay's maximum contribution is $4. For example, if you're charging $2 for the express upgrade, we will cover $2. If you're charging $7, we will cover $4.
