HOW DOES EBAY MONEY BACK GUARANTEE WORK?

Buyer and seller resolve together

Buyers can open a ‘request’ up to 30 days after the estimated delivery date of an item, for an item not received or item not as described.


Once a buyer submits a request, the seller has three business days to respond. The seller can offer a replacement, or a full or partial refund.


If the issue is successfully resolved by the buyer and seller, the request can be closed.

eBay reviews and determines outcome

The buyer or seller can ask eBay to step in and help if the issue hasn’t been resolved within three business days of a request. eBay will review the case within 48 hours and decide on the best outcome.


If the buyer hasn’t received an item or received an item that was inaccurately described – and there is no reason to believe the claim is fraudulent – eBay may refund the buyer’s money.

  • If the seller can prove that the item was delivered or was as described, eBay will cover the refund.
  • If the seller can’t provide satisfactory evidence, eBay will request reimbursement for the refund.
